How Do I Get Into The New Website?

If you had an account on WatchJeffersonCounty.Net, simply go to:

If the new site does not recognize your email address, it is usually due to a change in your email address that you did not update on WJC before the member info was transferred around the beginning of June.

Child Predator Apprehended

Loudoun County, Virginia -- On May 25th a member of the LCSO Criminal Investigations Division was contacted by a community member after his 13-year-old daughter was approached by the listed individual. The juvenile was running a lemonade stand at the time in Leesburg. The subject stopped several times during the day and bought lemonade from the juvenile. During one of the encounters, the subject gave the juvenile his first name and phone number. He asked her to give him a call.

An investigation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Hugo Antonio Callejas. He was charged with one count of Computer Soliciting of a Minor less than age 15 for sex or sodomy.

We are asking that the public contact Investigator Promisel at 571-258-3126 if they or a family member were approached by this individual. The subject possibly could have been driving either a white GMC work van with a ladder rack on top or a Copper colored Nissan Armada.

Article in The Journal

The Journal provided some really great news coverage on the introduction of www.NationOfNeighbors.Com this morning at the following link:

www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/520339.html?nav=5006

It was encouraging to see the announcement in our Home Base area. Our thanks to The Journal for recognizing the importance of Online Neighborhood Watch in our modern and often too busy society.

Current WatchJeffersonCounty.Net Members will be transferred to the new website over the next day or two and will have exclusive use of the new resources for the following two weeks. This will permit "load testing" and any fine tuning of the new custom-made website before national release to new members, agencies and communities on June 15, 2009.

Watch your email for the Member Notice in the next couple of days. In the meantime, Reports may be filed on the new website without logging-in. Thanks!

Suspicious Person in Red Van

Report filed on Friday, May 22, 2009 - 19:34 :: Reports
Suspicious Red Van
At approximately 6 AM on 5/17 - Sunday- I let my dog out to the back yard. She started barking towards my neighbor's driveway. I was trying to call her back in and all of a sudden a red van pulled up into her driveway, enough so that the driver saw my neighbor's house, backed up, turned the van around in the woods and started driving back out of the driveway.

I ran to the end of my driveway intending to get a license number - but my mouth opened and I asked the driver if he needed help. He stopped the van, said he was lost. Then he said he heard there was a lake up here and he wanted to go fishing. I told him the lake was private. Then he said that he had been involved in the search for the boy who drowned in the Potomac in DC and that he was sure the boy's body was caught in the inlets to DC's water supply. He said he was a vet.

There was wimpering coming from the back of his van. He said that he had a pit bull and and boxer puppy. He was wearing a powder blue housecoat or jacket and had a hospital bracelet on his right wrist. He was white, had a thin face, grey or light hair, no facial hair, maybe in his 60's. Then he says that he had been driving all night and was looking for a place to sleep. I gave him directions to Bloomery Road. He said that he had heard there was a camping area with a lake around here. I told him that I did not know of any.

I told him I had to get back in the house and he left, heading towards the lake. I did not see any dogs in his van. I did not get his license number. The red van had a molded cap on it, shaped aerodynamically. The van did have windows, but I did not notice anything unusual. The vehicle had a straight back, no curved windows.

A special thank you to fellow veterans for your service.....especially those of you who were deployed to combat areas such as Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and all of the wars America has fought in.

Thank You!

Fireworks for the Holidays

There has been a long-standing tradition in many families to celebrate most major holidays with some type of gathering which includes good company, home-cooked dishes and grill items, favorite beverages, friendly games of sport and a personal fireworks display near the end of the evening.

Fireworks rank right at the top of other things considered to be an American tradition, just like apple pie, baseball, burgers and hotdogs on the grill. Unfortunately, fireworks--even the legal kind--just do not mix well with wooded areas or even dry grasslands.

After the scary Mountain Fire incident in Shannondale on New Year's Eve, WJC has received several requests to ask folks living on The Mountain to please modify their family tradition and avoid ANY use of fireworks at all. In addition to being a Good Neighbor and a good caretaker of The Mountain, you will also avoid the high probability of an expensive citation, possible criminal charges if you start a fire or damage someone's property, charges for damages and cost of the fire equipment response and even civil liabilities.

Had it not been for the rapid and organized response of BRMVFD Co5 and the outstanding support received from several other Fire Companies, the New Year's Eve Brush Fire would have been a major disaster with loss of lives and homes in the affected area. If you have any doubt, just check the photos of the fire on this site.
