Our Mission:
Improve safety and security in Jefferson County by implementing a community driven website integrating crime reports, suspicious activity reports, discussion, neighborhood watch and geographical data.

Background:
The impetus for this site was the burglary of my own house in 2004. After learning of other similar breakins in the neighborhood, I came to believe that if all the information about suspicious activity in our area could be brought to light and made available in one place, that similar crimes might be averted and the perpertrators brought to justice. After looking into Neighborhood Watch and other community policing stategies, it became apparent that an online tool would be most useful. Many of the homes in our County are in wooded or rural locations making a traditional Neighborhood Watch program difficult. This is exacerbated by the fact that so many of Jefferson County's residents commute to work, and have little time for building traditional neighborhood social networks. This site is intended to serve as a common area wherein we can share information about suspicious activity, police activity and crimes, and other community information. Users can request to be updated when a new report is filed within a chosen proximity to their location, or when any report is filed within their neighborhood. We're all better off when we're well informed.

Technical:
Our website is based on a heavily modified installation of Drupal. Mapping functionality is based on Google Maps. Site development, design and programming provided by TinderBin LLC. Watch Jefferson County is hosted by Media Temple.
