Mountain Watch Meeting Summary - 5/20

The topic of discussion was Drug Activity Recognition and how to assist police. Dep. Holz gave the presentation, as there was a last minute schedule change for Detective Bonifant. We wish to thank Dep. Holz for giving up part of his day off to make the presentation - this clearly shows his commitment to our cause.

There is always something to be learned at our meetings. Most importantly - how to improve our observation skills, what to report, when to report, and to whom to report.

There can be many signs/suspicions of drug activity. Increased traffic at a particular house - both vehicle and foot traffic, especially at strange hours; noxious odors coming from an area; finding drug paraphernalia; repeated observable exchanges of items, especially where money is visible, and houses/buildings where extreme security measures have been taken. These were a few of the items discussed.

It was suggested that if you observe something suspicious, start keeping a log of the activity - include the date, time, suspected activity, best description possible of the people involved, vehicles - make, tag #, etc. One of the best ways to report/log this activity is on this web site. Remember, you can make an anonymous report giving the specific details in the private comments section.

Also, reports can be make to the narcotics unit - 728-3205. Reports can also be made to the non-emergency number - 724-8484 or to the SSP - 725-SAFE. Chances are if you observe a drug activity in progress and call 911, the parties involved will be gone by the time LE can get here.

Give the best report possible, being as specific as possible, with as many details as possible. LE does monitor this site and can gain valuable information to help them in their investigation which could eventually lead to an arrest/prosecution.

Be alert - Observe, Record and Report.
