Help us Scour the Mountain on November 4th
Please help us scour the mountain for litter Saturday November 4th.
Any time commitment will be greatly appreciated. It is not necessary to commit for the entire 2 hours. Someone to help shuttle people to different areas of Mission Road is helpful (perhaps a 20 minute commitment) or to help for a 1/2 hour is great.
Trash Grabbers and "official" orange bags furnished. We also have safety vests available.
Thank you!

Clean up of Mission Road from Webers South
BRILLO would love to participate in the next clean up and find out more information about how to join in with those who participated in the clean up of Mission Road from the "old" Webers' Market south to Riverside. This pickup occurred the morning of October 14th.
Please contact us so we can help next time!
Katherine
Thank you
Thank you to all those who helped with our pick up Saturday morning (Nov. 4th) Thank you Sheriff Boober and Deputies who controlled the speed of those traveling on Mission Road (at least to the speed limit).
We picked up about 30 bags of trash - including several tires, bumpers, and mufflers.
Please join us next time - you need not pick up Mission Road - but join us in a neighborhood, bring us a bottle of water or more bags. There are lots of things to do to help out.
Again, many thanks to all those who participated and gave up their Saturday morning to help.

We've been quiet, but still here - planning for Spring
yes we are still around - picking up trash left along Mission Road and the river access road - in just 2 hours on a recent weekend, we removed at least a half dozen bags of trash from the Gate 2 Mailbox area and the river access road - including a smashed toilet and someone's former light blue carpeting (approximately 10 x 12) that were "conveniently" left along the roadway.
Our next concern is the following:
WE NEED TO SUBMIT OUR FORM FOR THE 2007 MAKE IT SHINE PICKUP PROGRAM BY FEB 1. THE PICKUP WOULD HAVE TO BE SCHEDULED BETWEEN APRIL 2 AND APRIL 15.
Would you please consider helping?
If so, please contact me by email or call me 725-2182. We will be having a planning meeting on Feb. 22nd at about 7:30 p.m. Coffee, tea, wine, and cheese, will be provided in an effort to bribe you to attend the meeting and participate in our next BIG Spring/Earth Day pickup.
Even if you cannot help pick up the 100's of half-empty beer bottles strewn along Mission Road, please let us know if you would be willing to help in other ways: such as, going to the Highway Department in Leetown to pick up or return supplies and signage we borrow from the Dept.
Some have asked why a litter pickup forum is part of a neighborhood watch site.
Well, the beer bottles strewn along the road - and there are truly literally (no pun intended) hundreds of them -are left by people who are drinking and cruising our roads. There have been a number of incidents where people have left bags in the road filled with cement or rocks that cause damage to the undercarriages of cars or accidents. Smashed glass on the highways can cut your tires in a heartbeat causing a blowout and an accident. Those are just a few of the reasons we don our gloves, orange bags and walk Mission Road now and then. Won't you please consider helping?

County Notes Litter Problem on Bloomery Road
Attached is a link to the Martinsburg Journal newspaper and an article about the litter on Bloomery Road. As noted in the article, the situation is out-of-control.
"After receiving a complaint from a property owner in that area, [Rusty] Morgan said he went down last Saturday to see the problems for himself and take pictures.
A 5-foot-tall mound of garbage sat on the dock, deer carcasses were laying all over and at least a dozen syringes were on the ground, he said. “It’s just absolutely appalling.
