Most of us are at home today, using one of those valuable vacation days, due to the icy conditions.
We got "lucky" with this winter event in that it appears that we received more sleet and less freezing rain than expected, at least in my area. Power should remain operative.
Roads are very icy in the Shannondale area. Travel should not be attempted unless there is an extreme emergency.
Primary roads throughout the County are very rough according to scanner traffic.

Mountainside Road off Mission Road
I just talked to the Highway department. The woman there said that trucks are up in this area today. Maybe they'll get to our road.
I can't shovel by hand in the road anymore because the ruts are freezing solid. I was glad to get both newspapers and mail yesterday, however.
Round Two: 2/25/07
So much for "Accuweather." At this time, there is 6 inches of heavy, wet snow on the ground here in Shannondale, but it is slowing down.
The scanner is "popping" with one accident after another and many incidents of stuck vehicles. The wet snow precludes decent traction, even with the best snow tires.
Stay home if you can and enjoy the beautiful winter scenery. The risk of venturing out today is simply not worth it.
