Deputy Shot in Line of Duty
CPL Ron Fletcher, Unit 46, JCSD, was severely injured today while responding to a call in Ranson.
He was shot three times with a handgun. He was transported to Washington Hospital Center where he underwent emergency surgery. He is listed in critical condition, but IS expected to survive. One of the bullets is lodged next to his spine and cannot be removed without risk of further damage.
The standoff in Ranson with the perpetrator continued this afternoon, but did not appear to be a hostage situation. Scanner traffic indicated successful resolution of the situation around 5pm.
Please keep "Fletch" and his family in your thoughts and prayers. It is going to be a tough battle for all involved.
Cards may be sent to CPL Ron Fletcher in care of the Sheriff's Dept. at

Update 2/25
From one of CPL Fletcher's colleagues:
Fletch is doing well. He has been moved to a private room outside of the ICU area. He is able to talk and joke around with visitors and staff. I believe all of the chest tubes have been removed, and he is able to receive more gifts, flowers, etc., and keep them within the room.

Update 2/27
I heard that Fletch will be back in this area later this week!
I am not sure if that means to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, or actually home (which would seem a little quick considering the extent of his injuries), but that is the information to date.
Whichever way it is, CPL Fletcher will be back in the County and closer to all the people that comprise his extended family. This will certainly hasten the healing process.
Keep those Good Thoughts, cards and prayers coming, please.
