Security Cameras
To help prevent crime in my area, and to observe and report suspicious activity I have installed remote wireless security cameras around my house. These cameras are great because I can monitor my home from any location that has internet access, the cameras will also email me if any movement is detected. I have caught the neighbor kids vandalizing my newspaper box, and construction workers trespassing on my property.
This is a great feature because even if my cameras are stolen or vandalized it would have already emailed me a picture of the perpetrators. These cameras are relatively inexpensive, and can be bought over the internet. They do not require a computer to be used, so if your computer is stolen, the video is still being sent to an email address. I have recently setup cameras at my brother’s house, which has had some vandal activity as well as strange person visiting.
I am looking to add a new outdoor wireless camera to my setup, which has night vision and sound, so that I can come armed with a cache of evidence if anything were to happen at my house. I would strongly suggest anyone who is worried about crime to invest in at least one of these cameras. Most petty criminals which are the ones around here, will not even think that their actions are being recorded, and when their face is on camera, it will be hard for them, or their parents to deny they had involvement.

Which cameras do you use?
Hi Craig,
I've bought a couple wireless cameras in the past but haven't had much luck due to really bad video quality and horrible software. Would you mind sharing the brand and website for purchasing the cameras you're using?
Thanks!
Wireless Cameras
Two of my home cameras are wireless, color, with good quality face recognition even after dark--have built-in infra-red "flashlights" for nite sight. Initial aiming of antennae are critical for best signal, but it then remains stable over time. They remain on, both day and night.
Recorders: 2 ways to go, I believe, if you want a permanent record, or one that can be easily shown to LE or presented in court. Use camera w/motion sensor switching that can turn on a common, inexpensive VHS tape recorder. The more expensive option is to purchase a "time-lapse recorder" for $400 and up (I hit a close-out sale on line for 50% off) and take a "still" every X number of seconds. This has the advantage of being able to pick up activity in the area before it triggers another system. I was amazed at the number of vehicles that would stop, spot the camera and then slowly drive away without entering the driveway.
Deterrant value? Probably better than the record of my Siberian Husky family member! AND, no insurance claim for a dogbite.
Would enjoy hearing others' experiences and recommendations! Any video tekkies out there willing to state minimum specs and rough cost for wired and wireless? Thanks.
