Helpful Hints for the Summer from SGT Sell
Hi Folks,
Some helpful hints for the summer where larcenies are of concern.
Your valuable cameras, DVD players, stereos, Ipods, etc...all have serial numbers on them.
Write them down and keep a list of all of them in a safe place. In the event of a larceny, model numbers, and a description are very handy but the sure-fire way to positively identify the equipment as yours will be from that serial number. Don't forget your chainsaws, lawnmowers, any piece of equipment that has a unique number. It can make recovery of that equipment faster and easier.
Along those lines, and if the bad guys and girls want to scratch or peel off or damage that serial number, a simple identification mark can be applied in a place only you know about. There are enough small engravers out there where you can apply a design, initials, something unique to the equipment which will again help positively identify it as yours.
The gas can issue I am going to leave alone, but what you store in your gas can is your business. If you read between the lines, I think you understand the point though...
One idea that was proposed and discussed with SSP was the creation of a list of residents who own ATVs. The purpose behind this list is not to single out residents, but to get an idea of where and what kind of ATVs are owned. As stated previously, identification of those responsible for tearing up and down the road, causing damage and in general being unsafe on the roads will assist LE in being able to speak with and if necessary issue citations to adults or parents to attempt to curb the problem.
